Our Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah is the backbone of the Tensley Wines program. As in 2005. more than half of our production comes from this highly sought-after vineyard. As always, the Colson Canyon is the only one of our wines to see any new oak. This vintage was aged in 20% new and 20% one-year-old French barrels to add a bit of sweet toast and vanilla to the finish of this already complex wine. Saturated and ruby/black, the Colson is rich in jammy fruit, chocolate and pepper yet maintains its integrity as a balanced wine by harmoniously integrating tannin and acitdity. Drink this wine now or age it up to 15 years.

| Opaque; black with ruby at the rim. A generous nose; the very ripe blackberry aroma is rich and deep, with a sappy and plump texture. The fruit is outgoing yet restrained, with slightly dried/baked fruit tones that lend it a mature character, while maintaining a virile, opulent vitality. Interesting, enticing and alluring! The palate has some of the same tension, with plenty of sappy, focused and potent fruit, while holding back "full disclosure" of all its charms. The black berry/cherry liqueur fruit is accompanied by lush dark chocolate, mint, and brown spice, and expanding floral and mineral flavors in the aftertaste. Delicious! Very good body, rich, smooth, with polished tannins, and modest acidity.
As scrumptious a Syrah as I've had in a long time, this reminds me of some of the best wines I've tasted from the mid-Rhone Valley. It should continue to please for another decade or more. A very good value!! |

| Wine Advocate The inky/ruby/purple-tinged 2006 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard offers up scents of wild herbs, black fruits, roasted meats, leather, and spice. While slightly more tannic and structured than its two predecessors, it reveals outstanding depth, purity, and balance. It will benefit from a year of bottle age, and should keep for 7-8. Score: 90. —Robert Parker, June 2008. |
