Rich and dark as black coffee, this Australian Merlot gives off a slight toasted/burned aroma for a moment, which then dissipates, revealing a mix of fresh blackberries and strawberry jam. The richness continues on the palate, with an interesting balance of cooked figs and baking spices (think "fig squares"), balanced nicely by a bright plum acidity. The long finish continues in kind. Definitely a memorable wine.
