Almost black in the center, the wine's color morphs into a deep ruby towards the outer reaches of the glass. Tiny bits of solids float through the wine, evenly distributed, it seems, and they don't interfere in any way with the experience. (This wine is unfiltered) Aromas of raspberries, black raspberries,, currants, and bell pepper greet the nose, accompanied by earth and dark flowers. The palate shows plums, red currants, and black raspberry, balanced with firm but pleasing acidity, and extremely smooth tannins. The finish is fairly long, and consistent with the palate. Rarely does a wine do this much for so little. The price is very deceiving. I have to admit I have had a mixed relationship with South African wines, but this one is a winner
