Near opaque; blackish ruby. An open nose; ripe blackberry/black cherry aroma is concentrated and focused, with nice sweet and pure fruit augmented with notes of mint, vanilla, and spice from well chosen oak barrels. Just a hint of toast gives some floral character to the bouquet. Lovely! The palate follows the nose, with plenty of sweet dark berry/cherry fruit, backed by dark chocolate, brown spice, a bit of mint, vanilla, and lots of minerality. Delicious! Good body, some richness, a plump and creamy texture, offset by some aggressive tannins, and modest-plus acidity.
This wine has plenty of personality, and is very typical of the St. Emilion style, though the tannins are slightly stronger than in some estate's wines. Based on a 60/40 ratio of Merlot/Cabernet franc, it shows some pretty smells and flavors around the core fruit. I recommend serving it with a selection of fine cheeses, or with beef, lamb or game birds.
