Good saturation; blackish ruby with some garnet tones. An open nose; ripe blackberry aroma has plenty of hi-toned freshness, with some minty notes giving it a nice lift. There's also a concentrated jam-like center of richness. Very good. The taste follows closely, with plenty of sweet black berry fruit, accompanied by dark chocolate and mint, with plenty of minerality in the finish. Very tasty! Medium-good body, round and smooth, with some matte tannins, and modest acidity.
From southeast Spain, where Monastrell is an indigenous grape, this 100% varietal is very popular. I'm pleased with the bright aspects of this wine which compliment its richer, earthy characteristics. I look forward to pairing it with grilled food in the coming months. A very good value! |
