If you know Beaumes de Venise at all, your association is likely with the Muscat-based dessert wines from this region in France’s Rhone Valley. In fact, until very recently the red wines from Beaumes de Venise were simply designated Cotes du Rhone. The medium-bodied Patrick Lesec Beaumes de Venise has the earth and spice qualities one expects of such a wine, but without the rusticity inherent in some. Graceful, easy-drinking and full of character, this wine is a fitting ambassador for the new Beaumes de Venise appellation.
